Four Square is a so-called location-based service. Registered users can "locations" to create and add to interesting places such as restaurants, gas stations, but also firms and their own home into a giant directory. With the smartphone, this goes in a few seconds as the phone has GPS precisely locates the user. Once a location is created, you can then "check in" (again, just push the button) and to share this with friends.
